Mattia Preti (24 February – 3 January ) was an Italian Baroque artist who worked in Italy and Malta. He was appointed a Member of the Order of Saint John.
    Mattia Preti (Taverna, 1613 - Valletta, 1699) was one of the greatest artists of the seventeenth century, and his success also earned him a knighthood in Malta.
Mattia Preti, known as Cavalier Calabrese, was born in Taverna (Catanzaro) in He went to Rome at the beginning of the s and became acquainted with the work of Caravaggio and his followers.
